Sweet Melinda's got a tough tough life Never time to just play Not content to be someone's wife Had to go her own way Took the kid and got a small small place Just enough to get by Every morning it's the same old race Late at night, she'll just cry Come on baby wanna take your hand Come on baby so fine Come on baby wanna take your hand Come on baby let's shine! Sweet Melinda's gettin' up at six Looks around, it's so gray Every morning like a ton of bricks Just another long day Makes the coffee and it gets too cool TV news in the dawn Locks the door and takes the kid to school Why's the passion all gone Chorus All I know is that she's been my friend Seen my ups and my downs Helped me through it when I hit the end Picked me off the cold ground Never been around a heart so right Wide and deep as the sea All I dream of in the dark dark night Her, the starlight, and me Chorus Sound recording and song: © ℗ 2017 DRL Records Song publishing: © 2017 DRL Music, ASCAP Unauthorized reproduction of this recording is prohibited.

She's down in Virginia 'cause she had to take a break She had to get away for awhile New York was too much Now she's livin' by a lake I wish that I could see her pretty smile I wish that I could see her pretty smile Hey hey hey Now outta town friend Hey hey hey alright Hey hey hey Now outta town friend Love you in the morning and the rainy rainy night I think it was a Monday She called me on the phone She told me that she felt unblessed She said she felt confused Just completely all alone I told her she was still the very best I told her she was still the very best Chorus I had to go to work so I had to say goodbye I told her that we'd talk real soon She said she'd really like that I think I heard her cry I looked out at the downtown moon I looked out at the downtown moon Chorus Sound recording and song: © ℗ 2017 DRL Records Song publishing: © 2017 DRL Music, ASCAP Unauthorized reproduction of this recording is prohibited. .

One day we just met with the sky so blue Conversation all night long Everything she said All the words rang true Now I see her face and I hear her song Deep inside my heart That New York girl Deep inside the endless night Deep inside my heart That New York girl Everything she does just feels alright Walkin' down the street Now I hold her hand Sometimes in a noisy crowd Everything's complete Can you understand Nothin' makes me feel as fine and proud Chorus Soon the day is done and the night comes down Troubles never mean a thing Now I hold her close in my dark dark town One day I just hope that she'll wear my ring Chorus Sound recording and song: © ℗ 2017 DRL Records Song publishing: © 2017 DRL Music, ASCAP Unauthorized reproduction of this recording is prohibited.

Hot feeling deep inside my head Gettin' crazy from the things you said All evening with that cheap red wine Midnight on your couch Put your lips on mine Baby baby put your lips on mine Baby baby put your lips on mine Baby baby put your lips on mine Baby baby Baby baby yeah! Cool shadows all around your face Deep music all over the place Gettin' busy where the low lights shine Midnight on your couch Put your lips on mine Chorus I know we're gonna be here late Hey sugar, this is more than a date One kiss, we'll be over the line Midnight on your couch Put your lips on mine Chorus Sound recording and song: © ℗ 2017 DRL Records Song publishing: © 2017 DRL Music, ASCAP Unauthorized reproduction of this recording is prohibited.

We met at Bar Six on 13th Street The glory of a Sunday summer night She looked so fine, yeah she looked so sweet Manhattan never felt so right Manhattan never felt so right Someone really great in my town so gray My heart was beatin' fast, na na hey hey hey Someone really great in my town so gray I felt like a kid just ready to play My heart was beatin' fast, na na hey hey hey Someone really great and she was comin' my way! We sat in the back and we talked for awhile And everything she said was ringin' true I couldn't stay away from her beautiful smile She took away my lonely lonely blues She took away my lonely lonely blues Chorus We pushed to the front to see DJ Ike His baggy clothes were such a sweaty mess We danced to the music that we always like She swayed in her long black dress She swayed in her long black dress Chorus Sound recording and song: © ℗ 2017 DRL Records Song publishing: © 2017 DRL Music, ASCAP Unauthorized reproduction of this recording is prohibited.

Call from San Francisco What I heard her say was How come everything's so gray Fog came rollin' in It never really left The magic kind of slipped away She wants to be adored She wants to be seduced She wants a man to hold her tight She wants to be adored She wants to be seduced She wants some crazy love all night Back in dark New York I go about my day I've only ever been her friend All the stuff she tells me All of it's so real now When will her frustration end Chorus Somewhere in the night She gathers up her thoughts She writes them in her book of tears Buried in her heart There's just one simple wish Wild passion for a million years Chorus Sound recording and song: © ℗ 2017 DRL Records Song publishing: © 2017 DRL Music, ASCAP Unauthorized reproduction of this recording is prohibited.

That guy, the one she thought was nice Weeks later, he won't see her twice One day she's gonna love supreme She's a...lonely angel with a sexy dream Lonely angel with a sexy dream Lonely angel with a sexy dream Lonely angel with a sexy dream Come on Come on! That other guy, the jerk and a half All he did was break her heart and laugh One day she's gonna find her team She's a...lonely angel with a sexy dream Chorus Right now it's just another night Nobody there to hold her tight One day her world will shine and gleam She's a...lonely angel with a sexy dream Chorus Sound recording and song: © ℗ 2017 DRL Records Song publishing: © 2017 DRL Music, ASCAP Unauthorized reproduction of this recording is prohibited.

Callin' from the North like I hoped you would Wonder if my dream is gonna turn out good Asked me how I was and I said alright Watched the afternoon just fade to night Shy shy beauty When you call my name All there is to witness is an empty frame Shy shy beauty In your world divine Shy shy beauty Wanna make you mine Talked about everything under the clouds Never thought I'd hear your voice out loud Wonder what it means, wonder where it'll go Time flashed by, that's all I know Chorus Now I'm back home with my keys again Writin' dark songs with a beat-up pen Found it by the curb on 15th Street Blowin' all around like my love so sweet Chorus Sound recording and song: © ℗ 2017 DRL Records Song publishing: © 2017 DRL Music, ASCAP Unauthorized reproduction of this recording is prohibited.

She stayed out on the Coast like she always said she would She went back home She's workin' with her Dad And since she left Manhattan My town just ain't as good We stay out all night long but man, we miss her so oh bad Lonely lonely Lea Lonely lonely Lea Baby won't you come back and play Lonely lonely Lea Lonely lonely Lea Baby won't you come back today She called me up in tears Said she felt all torn apart She told me that she thought she hit the end She got into a fight with the one who stole her heart We're back here havin' fun but man, we need our favorite friend Chorus I tried to calm her down Told her look up at the sky She said she felt she didn't have a world She said she had a dream about a tall and handsome guy But meantime in Manhattan man we're waitin' for our girl Chorus Sound recording and song: © ℗ 2017 DRL Records Song publishing: © 2017 DRL Music, ASCAP Unauthorized reproduction of this recording is prohibited.

The kids downtown all dressed in black They look so cool but they can't relax The kids downtown They look so blue But way down deep We know what's true Some of us just wanna dance Some of us just wanna party Some of us just wanna dance Some of us just wanna rock and roll! The kids uptown all dressed so fine They get good grades, they toe the line The kids uptown They look so blue But way down deep We know what's true Chorus The poor kids want what the rich kids got The rich kids think that it ain't so hot The poor and the rich They look so blue But way down deep We know what's true Chorus Sound recording and song: © ℗ 2017 DRL Records Song publishing: © 2017 DRL Music, ASCAP Unauthorized reproduction of this recording is prohibited.

Started out as friends Long time ago Walked around the city Talked on the phone One sweet night High on the roof Looked into her eyes Found my proof Roses from the one She's not there Brighter than the sun Lighter than air Roses from the one That's okay Love her 'til the end 'til I fade away Chorus Everything changed Nothing to be Life got rearranged It was better than free Everything fine There on my wall Pictures from the ocean That dream-like fall Chorus Months turned to winter Winter to this Back to the rooftop High as a kiss Looked out at the city Clouds like a chase Miss her so much Miss her beautiful face Chorus Sound recording and song: © ℗ 2017 DRL Records Song publishing: © 2017 DRL Music, ASCAP Unauthorized reproduction of this recording is prohibited.

about

The Somethings got together one summer in NYC, rehearsed twice, and recorded a few songs, just to see how it would sound. They didn't have a name, and they had never performed together.

Six months later, they decided to make a rock and roll album--something that people could sing along and dance to.

They started rehearsing in a tiny room at Michiko Studios in NYC and ate a lot of fast food (except for Phil, who's a vegetarian). They got together every week for four months, learned new songs, and played a bunch of oldies too--just rock and roll stuff, from Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis to the Beatles, Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones.

Then they made the album during the summer, one year after they first got together. It was recorded live in the studio, except for some guitar and vocal overdubs. All the songs were first takes, with the mistakes left in.

When they were done, they called themselves the Somethings, because they couldn't think of anything else.
